The new Volkswagen e-Golf a zero-emission vehicle has reached the second generation. Volkswagen e-Golf offers a sporty driving style, greater power and a fully digitized interior. The new range of autonomy is 186 miles (300 km), compared to the 118 miles (190 km) of the previous version.
Depending on the style of driving, weather and air conditioning, the new model is a great alternative even for commuters. In Germany, for example, 80% of drivers drive less than 31 miles (50 kilometers) a day, according to a study by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure. The new electric model presented by Volkswagen is the right choice for people who have such distances. To encourage the sale of e-Golf or e-up electric models, the German builder provides a strategic plan for customers.
In the first two years, each electric car holder can get free of any Volkswagen gasoline or diesel (except Touareg), within 30 days a year. If you plan to go on holiday for four weeks, this strategy will put a free 2,485 miles (4,000-kilometer) car for you. There is a more than reasonable mileage limit that you can use for a trip to Europe. One of the major components of the new Volkswagen e-Golf is the lithium-ion battery. Its energy capacity increased from 24.2 kWh to 35.8 kWh compared to the previous electric model. Not only the capacity of the new battery has been improved, but also its agility. The new powertrain is also powered by more than 100 kW / 136 hp, compared to 85 kW / 115 hp offered by the first-generation Volkswagen e-Golf engine.
As is customary for electric vehicles, the maximum torque is instantly available, with the new model delivering a torque of 290 Nm (270 Nm of the previous model). To give you a better idea of this detail, the Volkswagen e-Golf offers the same torque as the Alltrack 1.8 TSI, which develops 132 kW / 180 hp. The new electric model accelerates to 50 MPH (80 km / h) in just 6.9 seconds. At 60 MPH (100 km / h) it reaches 9.6 seconds (previous model 10.4 seconds). The maximum speed is electronically limited to 93 MPH (150 km / h), and although the new model is stronger, electricity consumption remains at 12.7 kWh per 62 miles (100 km). The new Volkswagen e-Golf helps the driver save energy by adopting a predictive driving style.
Through multifunction display (MFD), the driver receives a message to release the accelerator pedal. This function occurs in the case of curves, intersections, speed restrictions or roundabout. In order to optimize winter autonomy, the German manufacturer offers an optional heat pump for Volkswagen e-Golf. To save electricity, this pump uses ambient air heat as well as heat supplied by drive components. When this pump is used it prolongs the machine’s autonomy by 30% compared to the electric heating system. Connected to a 230 V power outlet, the Volkswagen e-Golf battery is fully charged in about 14 hours. With a 7.2 kW load station, the process takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes. Connected to a 40 kW CCS (combined charging system), it takes an hour for a full charge.
In Germany, the manufacturer offers a charging card for all electric and hybrid Volkswagen models. The card is designed to charge the batteries as easy as possible at the lowest price. The card can be used to purchase electricity in over 10,800 power stations. It can also be used for other services, such as car washes. Costs are billed monthly, and over 4,000 charging stations out of the total mentioned above provide neutral electricity. To make it easy to find charging stations, you have the Charge & Fuel app. In some stations, loading can be started by the application as an alternative to the upload card. With the smartphone, the Car-Net e-Remote application provides you with remote access to the Volkswagen e-Golf.
This way, you can check the load process or control the temperature inside the car. The new model also features interior modifications, characterized by a very generous standard equipment. The second generation of the Volkswagen e-Golf model benefits from the new 9.2-inch Discover Pro infotainment system, which also includes gesture control. For the first time, the electric model is provided with an Active Info display as an option instead of analogue instruments. Together with Discover Pro, it creates a very pleasant atmosphere for digital displays and controls. The comfortable seats, the multifunction leather steering wheel and the blue stitch handle are new features of the interior. Volkswagen e-Golf price $44,917 (37,564 EURO, £33,889)
